I just wanted to let you know that there is a corner store in Richmond,B.C. called Danny’s Market on the corner of Garden City and Francis that sells Screamers. They advertise they are the creators of the “screamer”. In the summer months the lineup is out the door. They are a family run business and I have noticed the past few years they shut down for a few weeks in the summer and over the winter school break. It is definately worth checking out.
Hi there, and thank you for your comment.
Yes, we have in fact been to Danny’s Market in Richmond to try their Screamers, although I’m not sure they are the creators of the screamer as I had seen them many years ago in places much farther from here.
I am sure Danny’s Market has very large lines in the Summer months and I can see why as they have much larger screamers for the price compared to the old Grab n Go Convenience (GnG) and I’m sure let the kids love them!
In our trials, we feel there are two categories of screamers, ice milk based and oil based, and we believe Danny’s are in fact oil based, although we have no proof and are only going from the taste tests we have done. Many screamers we have tried tend to be oil based most likely because of costs.
To compare the two, I would definitely have to give GnG screamers the nod as they did in fact use ice milk, and according to the owner, they took pride in the fact they used the very same ice milk as Dairy Queen does. Too bad they are not still around, although I believe the owner now owns a pizza joint somewhat close by to the store, and we should pay him a visit!
We have since heard of another place that claims to have ice milk based screamers, and we have in fact tried them already, but will have to make another trip soon so we can try them again, take pictures and do a review.
Thanks again for the comments and if you know of any out of the way cheap eats in the Pacific Northwest be sure to fire us a line.
